What is an "Elevator Pitch"?
Watch this YouTube Video  to learn what you will have to do! (the website address at the end of the video is not connected to this competition) You do not have to own a business to enter (most students do not)... you SIMPLY need to come up with an "idea" for a business by the competition entry date!

ENTRY DEADLINE: September 18th, 2009 by 5:00 PM.

How to Enter:
Deliver a hard copy memo to Smith Hall 309 in an envelope addressed to Brad Hancock with your name, phone, email, major and a paragraph about your business idea. Also, state in the memo that if you win, you commit to represent the Horned Frogs in the National Elevator Pitch Compeition to be held in Chicago October 22 - 24, 2009. If you win the TCU competition, you will receive win free airfare and hotel to join the other TCU students going to represent the university.

COMPETITION DATE:
2009 Event scheduled for September 23, 2009 AT 5:30

COMPETITION LOCATION:
Smith Hall Suite 309 is where we will meet and then you will be taken to the conference room to present to the judges.

WHO CAN COMPETE:
Any TCU CEO member in any major on campus (join here to become a member)

SIMPLE RULES: In 2 minutes time, tell the three judges about your business idea, why it solves a need, creates value, and why it would be successful. Communicate well and WOW the judges with your idea for a business. You can dress however you wish, but no major props may be used - it is you and your voice alone that must "pitch" the idea. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OWN A BUSINESS TO COMPETE. YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO HAVE AN IDEA FOR ONE.

PRIZES:
1st Place will win $500 Cash PLUS a FREE Trip (airfare and hotel!) to the TCU CEO Chicago Trip to represent TCU in the National Compeition.

2nd Place will win $300 Cash PLUS a reduced rate to the TCU CEO Chicago Trip 

3rd Place will win $200 Cash PLUS a reduced rate to the TCU CEO Chicago Trip

Competition Details
The Elevator Pitch Business Idea Competition presents students a great opportunity to pitch a business idea to a panel of three (3) judges and a chance to win the great prizes mentioned above. "Elevator Pitch" literally means, "tell the judges about a business idea you have within the time that it would take to ride an elevator." Please watch this video HERE to get a better understanding! Presenting yourself effectively is an essential tool in entrepreneurship. The Neeley Entrepreneurship Program Elevator Pitch competition prepares TCU students to compete at the national level of CEO's "Elevator Pitch" Competition.

Who Should Participate?

  • Any student at TCU that has joined TCU CEO by 4:00 PM Friday, September 18th, 2009 may enter. Any student at TCU can be a member of TCU CEO. Simply join online here
  • Students interested in enhancing their presentation skills.
  • Students who want to demonstrate their ability to clearly communicate to a panel of judges.
  • Students do not need to have previously owned a business nor do they need to own a business today. It is simply a competition to clearly communicate a business idea you come up with by the time you enter the competition.
